Siderticino - Special Steels

C45 steel: bars, plates and custom cutting

We supply C45 steel (1.0503, a non-alloy steel for quenching and tempering to EN ISO 683-1:2018 (formerly EN 10083-2)) in bars - round bars, flat bars, square bars, hexagon bars - and plate blocks, in forged, hot-rolled, cold-drawn, peeled, ground and hard chrome plated executions. Custom cutting, heat treatment and EN 10204 certification (2.1 as standard, 3.1 on request).

01C45 steel supply

Siderticino supplies C45 steel (material number 1.0503), a non-alloy carbon steel for quenching and tempering to EN ISO 683-1:2018 (formerly EN 10083-2), used for general-purpose mechanical components subject to moderate stresses - shafts, pins, bushings, tie rods, gears and parts to be machined on machine tools. Good machinability and the option of surface hardening make it a widely used choice when the performance of alloy steels is not required.

The range includes bar and plate semi-finished products in the main production executions, with custom cutting, heat treatment and certification on request. The product list above can be filtered by execution, type, section and delivery condition; for an offer on a specific item, simply request a quote stating format and quantity.

02Available formats and executions

C45 is available as bar and as plate block, in various sections and executions. The following entries correspond to the product-list filters, where each item links to its detail page and to the quote request.

2.1Bars: round bars, flat bars, square bars and hexagon bars

C45 bars are supplied as round bars, flat bars, square bars and hexagon bars. Round bars cover the full range of executions (forged, hot-rolled, cold-drawn, peeled, ground, hard chrome plated), while flat, square and hexagon bars are typically in hot-rolled or cold-drawn execution. They are the preferred formats for shafts, pins, tie rods, fasteners and mechanical components to be machined on machine tools.

2.2Plates and blocks

For applications that require plate stock, plate blocks in C45 are available in forged and hot-rolled execution, suitable for cutting plates, dies and machine bases. Shaping and cutting to the required size can be agreed at the order stage.

2.3Executions and surface finishes

Available executions meet different tolerance and finish requirements: forged and hot-rolled for semi-finished products to be machined and for large sections, cold-drawn and peeled for tighter dimensional tolerances and clean surfaces, ground for round bars requiring maximum dimensional precision, hard chrome plated for rods and sliding applications. The choice of execution affects downstream machining and should be assessed according to the final component.

03C45 delivery conditions

C45 is supplied from stock in the untreated and normalised (+N) conditions, suitable for subsequent machining and heat treatment. Quenching and tempering (+QT), annealing and surface hardening are handled as processing on request, so that the material is delivered already in the condition suited to its use.

The optimal delivery condition is determined by the planned machining and the required hardness, and can be specified at the quote stage; Siderticino technical support assists in choosing the option best suited to the component.

04Processing and certification services

In addition to supplying the material, Siderticino offers services on C45 that reduce inbound machining and ensure batch traceability.

4.1Custom cutting

C45 bars can be supplied cut to the required length, reducing offcuts and shop-floor preparation time. Full details of the service are described on the custom steel cutting page.

4.2Third-party heat treatment

On C45, heat treatment can be arranged - quenching and tempering, annealing or induction and flame surface hardening - on the material ordered. Surface hardening, in particular, makes it possible to obtain hard surfaces on shafts, pinions and splined profiles while maintaining a tough core, without the customer having to arrange the treatment stage separately.

4.3EN 10204 certification

Every supply is accompanied by an EN 10204 type 2.1 declaration of compliance and, on request, by a type 3.1 inspection certificate, with traceability of the batch's chemical composition and mechanical properties. The 3.1 is the document required in orders where full material traceability is needed.

05How to request a quote

For a quote on C45, specify the format (round bar, flat bar, square bar, hexagon bar, plate), execution, delivery condition, any cut to size and quantity: request a quote and the technical-sales office will check availability, delivery times and current price. To estimate the weight of the semi-finished products in advance, the steel bar weight calculator is available.
